So how do you choose a wedding photographer?
Time to plan the dream day you have thought about probably since you were a child right? Everyone will have their own advice, opinion on what you need to do, what you need to book and what you should spend. Everyone’s budget is different, everyone’s ideal day is different. So how do you choose a photographer?
You’ve probably searched google, got some pricing and are now pretty confused.
Whats included in that price? Whats the difference between a spread and a page or a side? What coverage do I actually need? What does it all mean?
After doing nearly 750 weddings on the Central Coast , Hunter Valley and further, I have pretty much seen and heard it all. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand something, every wedding photographer runs their business differently.
Understanding the cost – There has been a ton of articles written about this but I am going to boil it down to 2 simple points. The cost of running the business AND the value of what is handed over to you at the end of it all. Now I know not everyone can afford a professional photographer. But please know what you are actually paying for. Is the photographer you are looking at properly insured? Do they have the equipment needed? If one piece of gear fails do they have back up? Do they have plenty of experience with people, with lighting, with bad weather, with bad light, with angry guests, with drunk guests?
Ask to see albums, full weddings and not just the highlights. Look at their reviews (if they even have any) Some photographers (including me) don’t have Facebook reviews up but that doesn’t mean we don’t have reviews on our websites. It’s too easy for people to leave bad reviews on Facebook when we haven’t even done their wedding or we don’t even know them. While I am on the topic of websites. Do they have one? Or do they just have a Facebook page?
The bottom line is you are paying for experience. Not someone that just bought a camera and now calls themselves a photographer. Half the work a professional photographer does you don’t even see.
To finish up, here are some simple pointers
1 – Ask to see more than just highlights
2 – What do you get for your money?
3 – Are they properly insured, do they have back up gear?
4 – Can they work in rainy weather?
5 – Can you picture yourself, your family and friends with this photographer all day?

Frequently Asked Questions
What is your photography style?
My style is photo journalistic and a little directed when needed. I like to photograph the day as it unfolds. Most couples that I have photographed already have said it didnt even feel like I was there.
I truly believe to get the best photographs for your most important day, you and your partner need to be as relaxed as possible…oh and let’s have some fun too!
What kind of Equipment do you use?
I use Fuji camera’s and lenses. I carry a backup of everything incase anything should go wrong. I like to know that I have every possible outcome covered.
My camera has dual card slots that backs up the images as I shoot too.
How many pictures will you take?
I dont have a limit on how much I shoot. Most couples usually end up with around 600-800 images depending on how long I am booked for.
Do we get to choose which images are colour or black and white?
I shoot everything in colour. While I am editing your photos I will see which ones I believe would benefit greatly from being turned into a black and white.
What is required to book the date?
I require both a deposit of $500 this is non refundable as well as a signed contract. This guarantees your date. The balance is due 4 weeks before the day of the event. Since I book my dates on a first come first serve basis, I do not hold dates until I actually receive both a signed contract and deposit. However, if someone else asks about my services on your date, I will try my best to inform you beforehand.
Do you have packages?
Sure do! To receive a pdf pricelist, just pop me an email at [email protected] or alternatively you can make up your own! Just let Lisa know what you would like included.
How about products?
I have a range of beautifully made albums, prints, canvas prints and parent albums. All proudly Australian Made. Please feel free to contact me on 0438 643 026 to meet up so you can view these products.
Do you charge extra for travel?
If your wedding is on the NSW Central Coast or the Hunter Valley, I dont charge for travel. However if your wedding is in Sydney there will be a $200 travel fee. I am available throughout Australia and the world, there will be an additional travel and accommodation charge though.
Do you mind if people other than you take photographs during the wedding?
No, I do not mind at all, your family and friends are excited you are getting married! I do however ask that when I am getting certain shots that other guests wait till I have taken the photos I need, then they can get the ones they want.
Do we get high resolution images?
Yes you do. Your files will be available to download 1-2 weeks after your wedding. I do suggest that you send the link to family and friends to make back up copies.
Am I required to feed you at reception?
Yes, I do require a vegetarian (no mushrooms please) meal. Weddings are long and are very hard on my body, I need a chance to refuel. Another handy tip is to ask for your vendors meal to come out just after yours. That way we have a chance to sit and have a break and eat properly without rushing.
